I have never heard of Peppermint, Bodhi or Deepin. Surely they can't be any good ;)

Huh. I can think of a number of distros that I have heard of that were...less than satisfying...

Many internet forums devolve into some of the absolute worst of human behavior and that behavior carries on like it's the new normal. Post comments from folks who behave like that are irrelevant IMHO.

Meh. Ain't worth a hill of beans as far as I'm concerned -- the Project Ranking OR the Page Hit Ranking. Popularity contests.

For what it is worth, I tried MX 16 when I saw the reviews on Distrowatch. I will be trying out MX 17 when it comes out. I have MX 16 installed on an older machine and tried it on my main computer, but could not get sound working (viewtopic.php?f=92&t=42497).

That is a well-known bug with that machine, and I will post the HP thread on it in the original thread.

perception is everything?
perception is anything???

Adrian, I noticed that reddit topic (lately I've been checking the pulse at r/linux, r/linux4noobs, and r/linuxquestions)
and I nodded silent agreement when I read the posted comment mentioning "zealotry".

C'mon, that's zackly accurate ~~ we (I participated) pre-filled the DW rankings db with a positively-biased set of reviews.
It's okay-by-me that the result is noticeable to the redditor as a "statisticalistical anombaly".

Since the word zealot has the word fanatical in its definition I eschew that word. Yes. I wrote a positive review at Distrowatch. Am I a zealot because I like MX, a lot, and shared my experience? I think not. Call me a fan or enthusiastic, but not zealot.
On the other hand, yes, Distrowatch rankings are not that significant.

Aye. I guess my focus was on the etymology rather than on the likely pointed connotation.
