The reason I use MX

#1 Post by linexer2016 » Wed Mar 29, 2017 2:28 am

I am now into my third month of using MX16 and feel I must again say ....

1. I believe this is the single best Linux distro there's ever been.
2. It sounds high praise and yes, it is. I had historically (over the past 20 years or so) only dabbled lightly in Linux. The reason for that was chiefly that I had never found a distro that was reliable enough, intuitive enough and simple enough to maintain. I had tried perhaps dozens of distros in casual exploration over those years but until MX came along, I really couldn't see how there would ever be such a user friendly distro as has MX16 proven to be.
3. Again, across those years, when some distro came along that looked interesting, I'd create a dual boot and see what the fuss was all about. Then I experienced what I suppose many Linux users have seen, a set up that worked only for a time before the Linux distro broke irretrievably necessitating a full reinstallation of Windows to get one out of a situation where one's computer refused to boot.
4. Then the happy day came when i discovered MX16. I have had absolutely minimal dramas with this distro and it is the first Linux distro that I have been able to and do indeed, use on a daily basis.

I want to once again extend my most sincere thanks to all who have contributed to the very fine distro that MX is. In an earlier testimonial (see https://mxlinux.org/testimonials), I wrote that I had little doubt that one day Distrowatch and others would trumpet MX as an ideal solution and three months on, I see no reason to change that opinion. It is great in fact to see Distrowatch now has MX ranked at 31 which is a long way from where it was those short three months ago.

Yes KoO, you know, I am surprised that not more admirers/supporters/hopers that MX grows and prospers don't seem to echo our comments on this Board. Still, with nearly 6000 forum registrations I suppose there is indeed a groundswell of support for this distro par excellence and the developers and other major contributors must know that they have a really good distro on their hands.

thanks !

since the release of mx16, we've been growing by leaps and bounds, and are now 31 on the default distrowatch list. And testimonials like your help with that! Thanks again for the kind words.

It's like I went full circle. In Mid July of 2003 I switch to Linux. My distro of choice at that time was SimplyMepis(Mepis). Now I'm using MX-16; It's a full circle I'm telling you. MX is a great Linux distro.

Agree 100% :)

I originally tried MX because the computers I needed it on were older, slower and needed something lighter weight. Using MX for years now almost exclusively, and would choose it even if I had a new, fast PC.

Three big reasons MX and AntiX are so good.
1. This community ! The problem solving power here is great, and with no attitude like one can see on some other linux forums. If you collaborate, people will work with you to solve difficult hardware and software problems.
2. Stability. Based on Debian stable, system crashes are so rare. Up-times for me of months are easily attainable. Sure Firefox or a plug-in can lock up, but you can kill those while the system stays operational.
3. Community repository.- You can get the latest Firefox and other programs. And if it is not available, most of the time someone on the great packaging team can package it up and put the program in the repo for you. Fantastic...thanks to those that can do this.

Sudo Reboot has called MX16 a Peppermint Killer.

Methinks it is a Linux Lite and Bodhi killer as well.
And I am slowly getting to the point of thinking of it as a Windows Killer as well, certainly every version after 7 at least.

I come to this space from using other distros and this one is the best I have used! I am very impressed with all the system tools, the ease of installation (I have already saved a snapshot and loaded it on to Virtualbox, will eventually install the snapshot onto a spare hard drive). What a treat! I have all my email, personal settings, etc on here. I want to also thank all the developers, coders, etc that have worked on this distro, you all should be proud of your hard work and I have nothing but positive things to say about MX16! I plan on using it for a very long time. I am a student right now studying accounting, but in the future, if you need someone to translate to or from Spanish, I will be happy to help.
