MX-15 Wow

Post by totfit » Sun Jan 03, 2016 1:59 pm

Have been using Linux for several years now. Dabbled a bit prior to Ubuntu coming out and have dual booted with windows for years, sometimes as my default and sometimes not. Have stuck with primarily Debian based distros including a good run with Mepis. I have been running Mint for a while and just switched back to Ubuntu, when I caught wind of MX-15. I was intrigued so I installed over my Ubuntu partitions and it has been a truly pleasant experience.

I was expecting to have to edit grub post install, or for something to go wrong that I would have to troubleshoot, but it was the easiest install I think I have done. It was flawless. Have not done much with xfce, so it is not totally new, but just re-aligning myself. I really love the quickness/responsiveness of the default desktop and the system tools are all inclusive and pretty amazing to use. Guess I need to knock on wood as "everything" has worked as I wanted. I use the financial program Moneydance and sync with with dropbox (which is a must for me) and installed both and set the sync up with no problem at all.

This distribution has been a joy. Unfortunately, right now my major issue is that I need to get away and do other things, but can't seem to stop pecking around with it. Thanks to all that contributed to my now favorite Linux Distribution.

Totfit, welcome

Glad you remember the Mepis days. Like you, I am impressed with the MX-15, for its Mepis-like stability and the "most stuff just works".
It carries on that great lineage. Warren's betas were better than a lot of other distro's finals. I over wrote my Mepis 11.92 (12?) fully updated and usable, but getting on 3 years old. So MX-15 it is.

I am still learning the xfce stuff, though I may dabble with the KDE on top of MX, already there is a probable fix for my sound issue.
I like KDE, but as I tweak and learn more on xcfe, I wonder what part am I missing, and that is less and less.

My samba works easily, and bringing in k3b with all its baggage is a familiar and well like program.

Welcome to the forum .. totfit & simgin

I agree .. MX15 is Super. The folks who do it and put it all together, deserve a huge amount of credit.

Ditto that. Its a great extension of Warren's legacy. Thankfully we have talented folks here who can pick up the ball in the form of antix / MX and continue to offer a terrific distro.
