MEPIS 12 is a beta that only gets updates thanks to the work put in by the community packagers.
XP has 10 years (at least) of officially maintained upgrade improvements.
Apples and oranges.

@lucky9 , it seems the answer was right in front of me , but i was not paying attention . Last night , after following your suggestions , and consulting the manual , i entered my BIOS set up and attempted to boot the MX-15 live disk .

This time the boot sequence started briefly , and then gave me a " fatal error / no AntiX files found" message .
Then i loaded the disk on the Windows XP side , to see if it would mount and show the file system on the live disk . The file manager showed that the disk was blank!

Then i thought, what if the problem is my live disk? So , why not try a couple of different live disks to see the result ?
I tried with a Kubuntu live disk , and the MX-14 live disk , both of them booted from the disk exactly as they're supposed to , without having to go to the BIOS set up.

So it seems that i either had a bad disk , or did not download my ISO correctly ( as I’ve said my internet connection is not that great or stable).

I would like to ask for your patience , because i intent to download a fresh ISO , burn it to a new disk and confirm 100% , that this was the problem .

I feel quite embarrassed , because i was not thorough , i should have noticed this sooner .
Best Regards
Rover

@eemaestro , thank you for the welcome

That is a very good question ! I have been using linux for the past year . MX-14 was my first distribution , and before that i never knew anything much outside the world of Windows .
The knowledge i gathered , thus far , is greater than what i learned from all the years of using Windows. To quote lucky9 , i learned that i should be a more responsible user, but also that ,there really is a faster , better , safer way of using your computer.

I learned things like writing scripts (to delay the conky start ) , using the terminal (with extreme caution) , and a lot of little things that add to my knowledge, meanwhile this system has been very forgiving to the mistakes i have made. And so far i have only the best to say about the MX team and the support i received . The issue i had with the live disk , is probably due to problems on my side . I'm still a novice user , i know i will make mistakes , its part of the learning process , so please be patient with me .

I don't know if the analogy is correct , but using Windows is like being a passenger to a car , just along for the ride . Using Linux is like being in the driver seat , you can go to all sorts of fun places if you know what you are doing.

Right now i'm using the standard XFCE desktop . I really like the KDE desktop , i will probably use it when i make a new installation.

Best Regards
Rover

I hope you don't think that anyone here has tried to boot a blank disk. I know that I have. Enjoy the drive!

Make sure you consult the Wiki article if you do, b/c it takes some effort to get a mostly normal KDE desktop:

I'd suggest going through it item by item. Just keep a Browser window open while doing the changes.

There's also my 64-bit remaster that also has a KDE desktop already installed and customized, ready to go. I'm uploading this month's updated snapshot as I type this; changes include an upgrade to the 4.4.6 kernel and Libreoffice 5.1.1, both from jessie-backports.

Is it in the original thread? I have a space saved for it.

Check the MX home page, link in left pane for remastered. Also linked at the beginning of the KDE Wiki Article.
