It doesn't matter now. She wants Windows back. And Windows only.

Maybe she is missing the little hour-glass that Windoz offers for entertainment while you wait for something to happen or the time provided to go do other things. She is setting there waiting and not going to get a cup of coffee.

that's like being able to skip commercials in mythtv... i no longer have a builtin potty break...

of course, there is always the pause button :)

I would just put windows back on the machine all the way and give her what she wants. Don't push her more by changing a theme or something. She wants windows, then just give her that.


Mind you.. speed wise.. my windows 2000 install was one hell of a fast worker on the old machine, it even beat mepis 8 in shutdown speed, but then 2000 isn't so bloated yet as the windowses nowadays ;)

Have you tried turning desktop compsiting off, if it hasn't defaulted to disabled? If speed is the major issue, this would e a 'quick win'.

Yeah, that's what I'm planning on doing.
