I wrote the wiki entry (edited by Jerry) and did test it with 4.12.
As far as I know, the different options in the wiki entry to deal with thin borders do work. (I haven't checked the xfce links for some time though)

Hello asqwerth The subject of that wiki is wider window screen edge borders, so You did well to include exposing some of the best of these tips while highlighting and sharing the work of rich on the thicker grabbing parts.
