winmail.dat

#1 Post by Jerry3904 »

Tax time, and now I received an attachment named as in the subject line with directions on how to deal with it for Windows and Mac users.

Part 1
A quick web search on "linux winmail.dat" pointed to a tool named tnef which is in the repos. Installed it and opened a terminal where I had downloaded the file from the email, and typed:

Code: Select all

tnef winmail.dat
Bing, there was the highly-secret PDF in the same directory.

Part 2
I could see the signature form, but could not print it with the default qpdfview. I was in a hurry, so took a screen capture, pasting that in a document, printing that doc, signing it, and scanning it to a PDF. Master PDF Editor, I subsequently ascertained, was able to print it correctly.
Production: 5.10, MX-23 Xfce, AMD FX-4130 Quad-Core, GeForce GT 630/PCIe/SSE2, 16 GB, SSD 120 GB, Data 1TB
Personal: Lenovo X1 Carbon with MX-23 Fluxbox and Windows 10
Other: Raspberry Pi 5 with MX-23 Xfce Raspberry Pi Respin
