Chrome lock-up solution
Chrome lock-up solution
I was having a problem where Chrome would sporadically freeze and if left unchecked, would continue on to a freeze of the entire computer. After a bit of googling, I found an entry on a Mint site that stated the solution is to disable hardware acceleration in Chrome. I tried it and it works -- and Chrome is demonstrably faster (go figure).
HP 15; ryzen 3 5300U APU; 500 Gb SSD; 8GB ram
Aspire V5-571; CPU Intel I3; 500 GB SSD; Intel 2nd Gen Graphics; 8 GB Ram
Aspire XC-866; i3-9100; UHD 630; 8 GB ram; 1TB HDD
In Linux, newer isn't always better. The best solution is the one that works.

Re: Chrome lock-up solution
Thanks.. just disabled it.. I wasn't getting lockups, but hey... if I can solve things before issues arise, all the better :)

Re: Chrome lock-up solution
Thanks for mentioning this. My PC regularly locked up when using Chromium based browsers, and because of this I ended up using Firefox.
A couple of weeks ago I disabled hardware acceleration in the Chromium based browsers I have installed (Vivadi, Opera, Slimjet), and I have used these browsers solely.
Not one lock up.
The problem is solved.

Re: Chrome lock-up solution
Thanks for the reminder! I always do this in FF but had forgotten to in Chrome. Also disabled:
Continue running background apps when Google Chrome is closed
Chrome shouldn't be running when I have it closed.
