cups vs samba for network printers

#1 Post by mmikeinsantarosa » Sat Jul 19, 2014 7:44 pm

OS==MX14
I've been able to connect a networked printer using cups but not using samba.

thanks (Jerry3904) for pointing me to the MX Docs page (a real duh on my part) and the samba section.

If I can connect to the printer using cups, shouldn't I also be able to connect to the same printer using samba?

Is there somehting I should check in samba to fix this?

Using CUPS, you type in the url of the printer, so in order to install a shared printer, which I guess is on a windows machines seeings as you're talking about samba, you type in the full URL for the printer, then continue from there, provided you've got the URL right.

This might help, and don't be concerned about the help coming from Mepis11, when using CPUS, there is next to no distinction between a KDE interface and any other.
