Solved - Epson Stylus CX5000

#1 Post by namida12 » Thu May 08, 2014 8:05 pm

Searching for this printer install instruction, not much available?

Has anyone installed this Epson model in MX-14?

I no longer have an Epson printer, but the Epson download site indicates that this printer uses the ESC/P-R driver which is available in the standard repos.
You will need to install the printer-driver-escpr package.

There is a newer version here http://download.ebz.epson.net/dsc/searc ... archModule Just type in the model No & select Linux.

EDIT ==Just a note to say those with A3 printers, they are now supported.

Just remembered that once you have the printer up & running you may have to edit the etc/sane.d/epson2.conf file to add your printer details. I needed this for my scanner to be recognized.

Still have not been able to visit to attach or install this printer, she just sent email canceling this weeks Thursday appointment. One day soon I will get to install, and may need assistance with this step.

Not there yet, and not fully understanding add printer details.

Printer is running well, tis installed as I type from her system...

Tim, I had "printer-driver-escpr" all ready installed but could not get printer to show-up.

chippy52, I downloaded two packages.

1. iscan-data_1.28.0-2_all.deb
2. iscan_2.29.3-1~usb0.1.ltdl7_i386.deb

They were installed in number order as webpage instructed.

The printer showed up, but would not configure correctly. I decided to check the version of "printer-driver-escpr" it had not changed. I decided to install printer-driver-escpr again, and that created a pop-up in the upper left corner Wait configuring Epson Printer. This pop-up dialog did not go away, after 30 minutes I clicked the box off, restarted the system.

Printer is installed, but what is missing is the ink levels. This becomes a problem, as this Epson printer has print cartridges that can not be taken out and installed again to find the low ink color. Since this is still dual boot I can have her boot into windows to check ink levels, if i can not find a way to check ink levels in MX-14...

Thank you Tim & chippy52 for the assistance, printer & scanner is installed.

Maybe libinklevel in Jessie would work and could be backported?

I do not know, but windows has a very elaborate ink level display routine for the users every time you use the printer. Would have thought Epson would have included some type of ink level indicator.
Something would be nice, rather than forcing her to boot into windows to check ink levels, when the light on printer flashes low ink...

I,m not sure of this model but I can check the ink levels through my printers own menu system.
