Solved - MX-14 - HP Officejet 6700 Premium was working

#1

Post by namida12 » Fri Mar 28, 2014 1:11 am

I was having trouble with this printer, install. It could not be seen by operating system as a USB Printer. Today I tried connecting it to the netgear router and viola it was listed.

With a bit of experimentation I was able to set up both the Fax and printer using the IP address that the HP Device manager discovered.

Using the document feeder it scans well with simple scan, and using Xsane via GIMP, it only displays the first page of a 4 page scan.
Much slower than windows XP HP scanning, but it is working well switching between the two for different functions.

Simple scan is better for multiple page scans.
Xsane for colored picture scans.

Was not able to find a method to scan documents to a PDF file, but jpg files are adequate for his emailing needs...

Not sure what version of Xsane you use, but I scan pdf docs a lot with version 0.997.

Simplescan scans to pdf, just scan and then go to Document, save as. Change the extension to pdf if needed.

I had to change it to jpg because I don't want pdfs

Monday, back to friends home to find out why the network was showing a red light on the Netgear router/modem and blocking internet access to computer.

I had him remove the printer from Netgear router/modem, and access to the internet was restored for all devices. .Failing printer? Not certain if the printer has failed, or what is going on, should be able to discover what is happening this morning.

We recently had an update to the HP software do I need to enable the software again. Tis odd I just had the printer contact HP via internet, but the connection is still showing red on the front of the Netgear router as if it is not connected, and it does not respond to scans or trying to print a test page.

HPLIP-3.13.5 version was installed.
New version of HPLIP-3.14.3 is available for upgrade. <--Per the HP

Try installing avahi-utils. It seems that some printers might need it.

Also was able to scan, photos and some line art... Haven;t a clue why the Netgear connection for the printer is showing red, but scan and print both work after updating as above...

I will wait for more comments before marking thread solved...

Dvegas, you did build and install a new version of HPLIP, but that same version is in the M12 test repository already, and available to MX 14.
