Using Canon printer on Win XP machine

#1

Post by Toastrack » Sat Jan 11, 2014 12:50 pm

Some time ago I lost the ability to print from my Mepis 11 to a Canon IP4500 printer ("shared") on my Win XP machine.

Please can someone tell me the correct way to set it up, in particular the command string to use to identify the destination printer?

Mepis can find the printer model OK, but then tells me it is unable to copy the PPD file. Before that stage, I am uncertain which type of command string to use (smb, socket, etc.).

Mepis can read and write all the authorised files on the XP machine OK, so I believe the basic samba networking is OK.
