the only other thing I've done is enable the i386 architecture. Which you've probably done already since you have ia32-libs installed.

dpkg --add-architecture i386

***edit*** the above is not proper for M11/squeeze. Should be find with MX/wheezy.

FYI: mx "test" repo is not the same thing as debian testing repo.

Very frustrating. And yes ia32-libs is installed.
I don't think gdebi will let you install a 32bit package on your 64bit install, install it with the dpkg command that Tim posted: {just make sure you're in the same directory that the .deb file is in -- I don't think you were earlier}

Code: Select all

dpkg -i --force-architecture dcp7065dnlpr-2.1.0-1.i386.deb
The --force-architecture lets you install a 32bit package on 64bit.

gdebi will let you if you enable the i386 architecture. This is on wheezy-based antix 13 64bit, not M11 though.

***per kmathern's note below, there is a difference between antix/wheezy and M11/squeeze in this regard. the dpkg --add-architecture probably is not right for M11/squeeze.

I think Dieselrider is still using Mepis 11 which is based on Squeeze. That 'dpkg --add-architecture' command is for enabling multiarch support in Wheezy/Jessie/Sid, but in Squeeze dpkg will probably complain with some type of error if you run that.

I was starting to feel something was fundamentally different...

You weren't in the Downloads directory when you ran it.
The prompt in the picture you posted had: [root@Thatch Denny]#
Which means you ran it while in the '/home/Denny' directory, instead of the /home/Denny/Downloads directory.

Do a 'cd Downloads' (without the quotes).
The prompt should then show: [root@Thatch Downloads]#
Then run the dpkg command again.

edit:
You could also specify the full path to the .deb file in the dpkg command. In that case it doesn't matter what directory you're in when you run the command (the path needs to be correct though)

Code: Select all

dpkg -i --force-architecture /home/Denny/Downloads/dcp7065dnlpr-2.1.0-1.i386.deb

Okay, here is what I get when in root in downloads. Not sure what it is saying.

In any case the printer will not print. It will start feeding paper if I try to print and run page after page through untill it runs out of paper but prints nothing.
