MX-17/MX-18 package request: "HTTrack Website Copier"

#1 Post by MX-16_fan »

"HTTrack is a free (GPL, libre/free software) and easy-to-use offline browser utility" (https://www.httrack.com/page/1/en/index.html) which ships with a GUI.

Currently, there's only some "3.48.24-1+b2" version of HTTrack in the Debian repos employed by MX-17/MX-18. That version, by the way, is unknown in the application's version history (cf. https://www.httrack.com/history.txt).

Given the fact that that would in any case be a fairly outdated version, and the fact that there are no similar tools available in the Linux ecosystem, plus the fact that even the newest version of this application would be from 2017, I would be more than grateful if you could provide that newest version in the MX Test Repo.

Greetings, and thanks in advance for looking into this, Joe

The current 3.49.2 release is in the Debian 10 repository, so I'll see about backporting it.

It's in the test repo now, so can you give us a report on it?

Short feedback:

Package installs without issues.

When using MS Windows, you can use a generic GUI called "WinHTTrack". On Linux-based system, HTTrack by default seems to rely on web browser which provides the GUI. The version of HTTrack tested here seems to be hard-wired to the Netsurf web browser, which, however, doesn't work properly with this application: In step 3, "Preferences and mirror options", the "Set options.." button does not work. I guess this would have to be corrected in the source code?

As long as that problem is fixed, the best solution might be to leave out the webhttrack and webhttrack-common packages and to package HTTraQt (a generic GUI, see http://httraqt.sourceforge.net/index_de.html) instead.

What do you think?

Greetings, Joe
