Request: HJSplit

#1 Post by JayM »

HJSplit is a GUI file splitter/joiner. There's a command-line version as well, called lxsplit.

There's also a java version:

Just for grins I tried running what they say is a stand-alone, portable Linux binary with no dependencies but I found that it needed a 32-bit library. When I installed that, it UNinstalled about 2/3 of my Xfce apps and MX tools! Rather than trying to find everything and reinstall them piecemeal after removing that 32-bit library and deleting the hjsplit binary, I ended up just reinstalling MX from a fairly recent snapshot. Bother!

So I think it would be safest to just package the java version such that installing it places the jar file somewhere (/usr/local/bin, probably) and creates a menu item for it as I've done manually on my system (though I put the jar in $HOME/Applications.) The icons for it are in hjsplit_g/hakgu/app/hjsplit/resource/ after you unarchive the .jar, but they're in .gif format and would have to be converted to .png as I've also done on my system. (Anyway, the java version's faster than the binary.)
