Package request: AnyDesk - remote access

#1 Post by Buck Fankers »

Pretty please , looks like AnyDesk is better than Teamviewer, is there a chance to be added to the MXPI?

https://anydesk.com/en/downloads/linux

Or, if not, how can I get it to work on MX myself? I downloaded both versions, generic for Linux and the one for the Debian/Mint in both cases I got: anydesk-4.0.1-amd64.tar.gz sadly not the deb file. I extracted the file and I get what looks like working folder but I can't get it to work. I copied desktop file on the desktop, but it is not working. I probably need to copy folder somewhere into the root file system, would this make it to work? I wouldn't mind use an appimage, but I didn't find it on their site.

So at this point, I have no clue what to do next, but to ask for installation help or to be added to MXPI if possible. :crossfingers:

Well, with your help I got it downloaded and working, but since it is better than Teamviewer, may not be a bad idea to get it into the MXPI. Thanks again for all the help today. And always!

OK, send a PM-file to D_O, so AnyDesk installer within MX Package Installer -> "Populare Apps" will become available a.s.a.p.

Probably, OTOH a post with a subject line "Will be worthy to have in MX Repos..." might have been overlooked as a package request. It might be advisable to make it more visible as a package request rather a discussion paper.... :snail:

Is there any representative comparison of functionality (AnyDesk vs Teamviewer)? I tested AnyDesk a year ago and in that time it was a bit unstable and slow (graphics).

Sorry for late reply. No, I'm not aware of representative comparison. Only statements from other users, some anonymous, some that I respect (@fehlix)
- you can run out of free limit
- teamviewer needs constantly running background service, you can mitigate but takes extra steps

One anonymous recent example (over time I saw several), here are comments on Distrowatch, about what backup app someones uses, that also turned slowly into MX comments, and some critique, interesting:
https://distrowatch.com/weekly.php?issu ... 22&mode=67

Someone (comment 45) referred to Teamviewer placed into MXPI popular application as:
ie. proprietary garbage like teamviewer some people want
In my case I will only use AnyDesk on computers I will install, so after installation I will already have every remote link/address, no need for sending 'invitations', to me seems better solution. Anyway, on first run I just like it a lot so it become my first choice.
