MX 17/18 Repository: The Shotcut Thread

#1 Post by Stevo »

We now have Shotcut 19.01.27 nonlinear video editor in the test repository, with 17.10 remaining in main.

Please report how it installs and performs if you give it a try...thanks!

Installed without issue here on a test machine, and launches.

Somewhere along the way (between Jan 17 & Feb 12) you installed mesa from the MX Test repo.
Packages in Test are often replaced by newer versions, which has happened in this case. I know this because, for example, libglapi-mesa is at version 18.2.6-1~mx17+1 in Main and 18.3.2-1~mx17+1 in Test but your error messages keep referring to version 18.2.8-2~mx17+2 which is not currently in any repo.

The solution should be to upgrade all your mesa related libraries to the 18.3.2-1~mx17+1 version in the MX test repo and then try again.

And BTW, the MX Package Installer writes a logfile at /var/log/mxpi.log with each use and it's much easier for everybody to cut and paste the messages from there rather than attaching images.

OK I also was able to install Shotcut from the MX Test Repo in MXPI (MX Package Installer) without issue.

I did find it shows under Multimedia in the Whisker menu, however it is missing a comment, which looks like this:
Screenshot-Shotcut Desc missing.png

So I right click on whisker menu, select Edit Applications, then click on Multimedia to expand applications under that category, and select Shotcut where you see the Comment is blank:
Screenshot-Shotcut Desc to fix.png

then put "Video editor" in the comment:
Screenshot-Shotcut Desc fixed.png

and now the Comment is showing in the menu:

Great news, thank you. Installed without problem, actually it is already 19.02.13

I have an issue (well it is not a big problem actually (for me), but it could be for someone else who does not speak/read in English).

With installed Shotcut 19.02.13, I cannot set/change Language settings to Polish. It is set for Polish, but everything is in English (of course Shotcut has restarted after changing). I cannot change language to any other language than English.

I have no such a problem with appImage Shotcut 19.01.27.

Both versions are using probably the same config file or something, because after changing setting in installed Shotcut 19.02.13 eg. to Russian there is still English interface, but appImage Shotcut 19.01.27 starts with Russian (or German or whatever I've used)

Can you try changing interface language in your installed Shotcut just for test - is it only my local problem or not only mine? Thank you.

Or maybe you know what is config file for Shotcut? I did search with Catfish through whole system (/), but I cannot figure out which file is for language settings in Shotcut.

There isn't a button "View Log" anywhere in the Package Installer?

Still a cool tool...!

You can always create a panel launcher or menu item to view the log.

Shotcut 19.01.27 is still the latest release, with any 19.02 versions still in beta.

It appears that the Shotcut package build process doesn't build and install any of the translation files, so I'll try and fix that.

My Shotcut installed from MX Test Repo (in MX Package Installer in version column there is 19.01.27-0.1~mx17+1)
Help > About Shotcut shows this:
