Wmaker 0.95.8-3

#1 Post by aledie »

@Stevo, is it possible to have wmaker (0.95.8-3) with few dep and sug (if changed versions) added to Testrepo (currently wmaker (0.95.7-8) in Stretch)? There were several changes like Debian menu dropped in favor of freedesktop menu.
https://packages.debian.org/buster/wmaker

It should backport flawlessly (Ubuntu has it as well as Wmlive in an earlier *.-1 version working flawlessly under stretch): http://wmlive.rumbero.org/repo/pool/main/w/wmaker/

I'm playing with it under antiX base and manyroads's MX-18 Minimal as alternative WM and is pretty fast and satisfying, also switched on normal MX Gtk theming instead of usual pastel colored ones.

Buster Version 0.95.8-3 installs on MX-18.1 without any problems or unfulfilled dependencies, so it's probably just renaming/moving those few packages into the testrepo to avoid the need to use the actual buster repos?

The menu in the new version reflects the actual MX menu well without a need of tweaking (freedesktop based), while in the previous it was long Debian menu.

EDIT. only dependency, which may cause actual backporting is libwraster5 updated to 6 (I'm using version 0.95.8-1~stretch1 from wmlive distro's repo).

We actually rebuild our packages from the source code files for our repos, not just take precompiled debs from upstream Debian and rename them, in order to make sure they are compatible. I've sent the wmaker rebuild up to our test repo, but the Buster version is higher, so it won't appear as an upgrade to you now. You could force install the MX version, though.

@Stevo, thanks it works perfectly. MX menu included in "Applications" Item of the root menu.

Just a remark to anyone might want to use wmaker - a line needs to be added somewhere to the autostart script to enable polkit and make those few apps starting with '*-pkexec' (Gparted, Synaptic) from the menu:

Code: Select all

/usr/lib/policykit-1-gnome/polkit-gnome-authentication-agent-1
