mixxx 2.1.0.0 in MX Test Repo gives error and does not start.

Post by penguin » Thu Jan 31, 2019 6:26 pm

I have tried to update mixxx package 2.1.0.0 (Digital Disc Jockey) that is offered in MX Repo.
In the startup gives me error ; Skin directory does not exist: "/usr/share/mixxx/skins/" and mixxx does not run.
Anyone have tested this version ?

Something is related here

Code: Select all

https://www.mixxx.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=213
I downgraded to version 2.0.0 that dwelled in MX Repos and that runs fine :).

Something seems to be wrong with mixxx-data--it's an empty package.

Let me try and fix that with mixxx-2.2.0.

We believe the bug is fixed in Mixxx-2.2.0, which should appear soon in the test repositories for MX 15-18.

Problem persist with version 2.2.0. The updater delete the contents of /usr/share/mixxx/.

Stevo. There are two simple way to correct this problem:
1- Include in installer the contents of
/usr/share/mixxx/
( I can upload somewhere a zip file of content, or you can install tje last working version and make a copy of the content and include it in installer ).
2- Or do not over write this directory during upgrade.

By installer I mean deb file.

I installed and substituted the content of
/usr/share/mixxx/
( installer creates this directory without content) and mixxx runs fine.

Attached this post is a screenshot that shows content of
/usr/share/mixxx
directory in my computer.

.... but when you open Synaptic you get an error message said :You have a broken message and mixxx needs to be removed.

You should have have the same version of mixxx-data installed, which does create and add a lot of stuff to /usr/share/mixxx. Mixxx depends on that package, so what does

Code: Select all

apt policy mixxx-data
report?

If both mixxx and mixxx-data match, there should not be a broken package, unless you have third-party repos like deb-multimedia messing things up. Remember,

Code: Select all

aptitude why-not <package>
is very useful in cases like yours.

mixxx-data:
Installed: 2.1.0-0.1~mx17+1
Candidate: 2.1.0-0.1~mx17+1
Version table:
*** 2.1.0-0.1~mx17+1 100
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
2.0.0~dfsg-7 500
500 http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian stretch/main amd64 Packages
500 http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian stretch/main i386 Packages

$ aptitude why-not mixxx-data
Automatically installed, current version 2.1.0-0.1~mx17+1, priority optional
No dependencies require to remove mixxx-data
I repeated upgrade, just for you.. Something is going wrong during upgrade also there is also e error message during build I try to over kill but fail....). AlI said in my previous posts remain. New directory
/usr/share/mixxx/
is empty
And the strange thing is report from Synaptic (broken package).Remove mixxx. Look at the follow screenshot.

Mixxx 2.2.0 did not make it into the test repo yet. Here's a direct link to the packages: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1bzPHX ... o_Rmy-tYsi

mixxx-data 2.1.0 is the bad one that installs no files.

Downloaded
Removed the mixxx 2.0.0 version
Installed-upgraded (libsoundtouch and soundstretch) -these 2 libraries are necessary ?
installed mixxx-data 2.2
installed mixxx

runs fine.

P.S.
Stevo.2 questions.
It is much better to install dev_deb version instead of deb ?
dbg_sym serves for debug ?

You don't need to install the -dev package of libsoundtouch unless you build programs that use libsoundtouch, like I had to for mixxx. Yes, you need a soundstretch and the new runtime libsoundtouch for the new mixxx.

You only need the dbgsym package if you're going to run the library in a debugger. I disabled them for Mixxx because they are quite large for that program, and hardly anyone uses them.
