MX 17 Repository: The SuperTux Thread

#1

Post by Stevo » Mon Dec 31, 2018 2:20 pm

The latest 0.6.0 release of the popular side-scroller game, SuperTux, is now in our test repository!

Image
Changes in the update over the 0.5.1 stock version include:

Complete redesign of the icy world and forest world (Thank you, RustyBox and Serano)
Complete revamp of our rendering engine, the game should be much faster than it was previously
We now support OpenGL 3.3 Core as well as OpenGL ES 2.0, thus allowing SuperTux to be run on the Raspberry Pi, and potentially WebGL.
A few graphics have been updated, and effects have been added
The save bell was reworked (Thanks to Raghavendra “raghukamath” Kamath!)
Improved big Tux graphics and animations (Thanks to Alzter)
Various effects and shaders (Thanks to Grumbel)
Support for right-to-left languages through vector fonts. This will also fix a few non-ASCII characters, which often caused problems before in translations
A lot of other under-the-hood changes and bugfixes
This was packaged from the source code download, since it's not in upstream Debian yet, with the 0.5.1 Debian packaging used as a template. I did have to add several new build-depends, probably for the improved font support, and tweak an install file.

Please let us know how it installs and runs if you give it a try. Thanks!

It will not build successfully for MX 15/16, but there is a 64-bit AppImage which is not much bigger than the standard deb install which should run, and also a flatpak of unknown size.

supertuxkart_0.9.3-2 is available for download fro the test repo.

If we could get some testing on this one, we can move it to main.

You are welcome mmikeinsantarosa ... The tests was mostly done by my son (he spends maybe too much time for that, I have to fix some extra rules I think ;-) ).

Hey, supertux is a different game than supertuxkart! No hijacking this thread, or I will have to send you a very strongly worded letter!
