When exporting from GIMP you have a wide of formats to choose from. There is a good note in the Help about the relative merits of JPEG, PNG and some others. For the current project here, am exporting everything in PNG without any compression, and it is fast.

Well, that's some positive reports. Any thoughts about moving it to main?

I cannot see any reason not to move it. Although it brings some new features it is really only a point upgrade. As far as I am concerned, it works and will continue to
use 2.10.10 as a production tool with no bugs found.

I know, that there are many formats ;)

But I tested it with JPG at the moment, so my comment.

Maybe it would be good idea to leave it in "Test" "just in case"?

Then there is always choice between two versions - 2.10.8 and 2.10.10.

Even if 2.10.10 is probably ok, some users (maybe) prefer 2.10.8? Just a thought.

OK, maybe it can wait for a new MX 18 point release, if any.

Agree with that Stevo. Both 10.8 and 10.10 work well, it's easy enough to upgrade from Test repo for anyone wanting the latest.

We now have the latest 2.10.12 release in the test repo, along with updates to babl 0.1.66 and gegl 0.4.16 that are required. Those are supposed to get pulled in automatically, unless you have the bad libbabl from deb-multimedia that breaks GIMP.

It mostly fixes some annoying bugs, but also adds:

Improved Curves tool
Layers support for TIFF exporting
Support for user-installed fonts on Windows
Faster painting
Improved symmetry painting support
Incremental mode in the Dodge/Burn tool
Free Select tool now creates a preliminary selection
New Offset tool

I also sent up MX 19 packages, but we have to decide whether to make this release the default, or go with the stock Debian 2.10.8 version for our ISO.

Code: Select all

gimp (version 2.10.10-0.1~mx17+1) will be upgraded to version 2.10.12-0.1~mx17+1
gimp-data (version 2.10.10-0.1~mx17+1) will be upgraded to version 2.10.12-0.1~mx17+1
libgegl-0.4-0 (version 0.4.14-1~mx17+1) will be upgraded to version 0.4.16-0.1~mx17+1
libgegl-common (version 0.4.14-1~mx17+1) will be upgraded to version 0.4.16-0.1~mx17+1
libgimp2.0 (version 2.10.10-0.1~mx17+1) will be upgraded to version 2.10.12-0.1~mx17+1
gimp-python (version 2.10.12-0.1~mx17+1) will be installed

Apparently babl doesn't get pulled along, although it DOES show as upgradable.

Well, I've upgraded to 2.10.12 from 2.10.10.

There was a screen with wrong version of Babl (Gimp didn't start).

So I did unistall all GIMP packages and install fresh 2.10.12. Babl 1.66 was installed, GIMP 2.10.12 starts now.

With 'fresh' upgrade from 2.10.8 to 2.10.12 (on another machine 32bit) there was no problem with that.
