Hoping for pulseeffects (now that can't get qpaeq to work in Debian 9)

#1 Post by plzd » Mon Mar 05, 2018 5:33 pm

Hoping it's possible to get pulseeffects for MX17. I tried adding their Debian 9 repo but install requires gstreamer1.0-bad and gstreamer1.0-bad version 1.12 or greater (MX17 has 1.10-4).

I followed their procedure:
echo "deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/mikhailnov/pulseeffects/ubuntu bionic main" | sudo tee /etc/apt/sources.list.d/mikhailnov-ubuntu-pulseeffects-bionic.list
sudo apt-key adv --keyserver hkp://keyserver.ubuntu.com:80 --recv-keys FE3AE55CF74041EAA3F0AD10D5B19A73A8ECB754
sudo apt update
sudo apt install pulseeffects

Link to their page: https://github.com/wwmm/pulseeffects/wi ... an--ubuntu

THANKS FOR YOU HELP.

If their advice for Debian 9 is to use the Ubuntu Bionic PPA, they don't what they're talking about. Maybe they meant artful, which has a better chance of working, but I'll see if I can rebuild it so it works correctly.

Hmmm--it does require a gstreamer update to 1.12. What did you try to do to get qpaeq to work?

Just like I used to do with MX16 viewtopic.php?f=93&t=41623&p=407137&hilit=qpaeq#p407137

I've got gstreamer 1.12 backported and built pulseeffects against it, so I'll send those up to the test repo.

THANKS - such fast response!

Though it still has unresolved dependency(-ies) libgstreamer-plugins-bad (does that mean there's a libgstreamer-plugins-good that will be needed too?)...

Anyway, I go to MXTesting and install upgrades, but when going to install actual pulseeffects package, it downgrades back to 1.10 versions - leaving it back to square one :(

Appreciate your time and efforts.

WOW! Just found that Pulseeffects was added to the MX Testing repo recently. I thought that it got forgotten -- knowing that you guys are busy, busy, busy. Thanks much. I have a very bad problem with certain frequencies and have to have EQ...

That said, when I open Pulseeffects GUI and turn on the EQ for a given app (youtube within waterfox browser, or video, etc. playing in mpv...) the volume jumps to a VERY LOUD 100%. :frown: Is there anything I can do about this?

Thanks very much.

We've moved pulseeffects and its backported gstreamer packages to the experimental repo for now, since those gst packages were causing some upgrade issues. The URL for the experimental repo is

Code: Select all

deb http://mxrepo.com/mx/experimental/ stretch test
Be aware that the experimental repo also has updated Mesa and xorg video driver packages, so be careful not to upgrade everything willy-nilly from it, or leave it enabled.
