Adding gnome-calculator version 3.10

#1 Post by qwertyblahblah » Tue Jan 16, 2018 5:12 am

Is it possible to package version 3.10 of gnome-calculator for MX-17 testing? I don't like galculator, and I don't like the Gnome 3 titlebar and menu on the recent versions of gnome-calculator. I just want to stay with the pc calculator I find comfortable to use, since I first used Linux Mint. When I moved to MX-16 I was able to download and install the deb package from Jessie-based Ubuntu 14.04 here...
https://packages.ubuntu.com/trusty/gnome-calculator

Thanks

In the meantime you can find it at http://snapshot.debian.org/package/gnom ... /3.10.2-1/

I just discovered, though, that gcalc doesn't have memory. Strange omission.

There's also SpeedCrunch, but again, no memory that I can see.

It does in scientific mode, right?
Production: 4.15.0-1-amd64, MX-17.1, AMD FX-4130 Quad-Core, GeForce GT 630/PCIe/SSE2, 8 GB, Kingston SSD 120 GB and WesternDigital 1TB
Testing: AAO 722: 4.15.0-1-386. MX-17.1, AMD C-60 APU, 4 GB

I didn't see it, Jerry. Might have missed it. But Sci mode is too big for my normal usage. It does access the system clipboard, which is good in a pinch but not for persistent storage. I like its 'paper' display, and will use galculator as a backup when I need memory.

Woah, that snapshot archive looks handy! I don't know how I hadn't come across it before. But I'm confused, can I install it onto MX-17/Stretch? Is it backported to Stretch?

Saving calculations in memory like a real calculator should be sufficient, but another reason I don't like the current gcalc is that it retains display of all calculations you enter.

It installed successfully here, on MX17 x64.

There's no guarantee that an older GNOME 3 package like that is going to work on 3.22, especially with the way GNOME messes around with APIs. But if it works, more power to you!

It seemed to work fine. I used it for a few minutes. But I like the newer version better, so I switched back.

Adding gnome-calculator version 3.10?

Yeah the gcalctool 3.10.2_all deb installed 3.22. But the gnome-calculator 3.10.2 amd64 deb below installed fine. It was 3.10.3 I liked over this 3.10.2, but oh well it's close enough I'll live with it.

As the solution didn't have to be adding to MX feel free to move the thread.
