MX 17 Repository: The Calibre Thread

#1 Post by Stevo »

We now have the latest 3.15 Calibre release in the test repository, backported from Debian Sid.

It's a Swiss-army tool for ebooks; organizing, reading, converting, loading, and creating them from websites automatically if you want the latest news loaded onto your reader.

If you give it a try, please let us know how it performs, otherwise we won't have data to move it to the main repository.

We now have Calibre 3.19.0 in the test repository. Changes include:
Driver for the new PocketBook 740
Allow using relative URLs in comments type metadata. The relative URLs are interpreted relative to the book folder in the calibre library
Edit book: Reports: Do not show characters from the HTML markup in the characters report.

Closes tickets: 1753788
Allow adding the Virtual library button to any toolbar/menu via Preferences->Toolbars & menus

Bug fixes

Server: Fix server becoming unresponsive if a client sends invalid SSL data at exactly the right moment
Conversion heuristics: Make unwrapping recognize Georgian letters as well.

Closes tickets: 1753533
Make de-serialization of stored conversion options safe against maliciously crafted input

Closes tickets: 1753870
E-book viewer: Change the file format used to import/export bookmarks to use JSON. This prevents malicious bookmarks files from causing code execution.

Closes tickets: 1753870
Make the history completion for the search and replace edit box case-sensitive.

Closes tickets: 1752447
PDF Output: When the input document contains multiple anchors with the same value, use the first anchor rather than the last. This follows browser behavior.

Closes tickets: 1752825

It can be installed in Caibre's Preferences, in the plugins section, "get new plugins".

You might have better help on Calibre's forum with people who use.

The plugin's README on github https://github.com/kfix/calibre_plugin_djvumaker says it requires a backend to do the conversion. I see pdf2djvu is in the standard repos; though I don't know if the input document must be in the PDF format.

Thank you for having this in the test repo; it's very convenient. Before MX, I was just using the command-line installer. Like an animal. I've uninstalled that and switched to the repo version.

I believe that MX 15/16 users will still have to resort to the CLI installer, since that version bundles a newer Qt 5 than we can provide, but MX 17's Qt 5 is still good enough. We'll try to keep Calibre current in our repo as long as possible, now that Debian is also keeping upstream versions current.
