MX 17 Repository: Flameshot Thread

#1 Post by Stevo »

This is an interesting screenshot tool in development.
http://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2018/01/flam ... annotation
https://github.com/lupoDharkael/flameshot

It currently lacks a text tool, and seems to save jpgs as png files, but seems to work well otherwise. Comments on OMGUbuntu were all about wanting a bloated snap or flatpack, but I also went and built multiple packages on the OBS: https://build.opensuse.org/package/show ... /flameshot

I think its current three menu entries under Graphics could be reduced to one, and the icon doesn't show on MX 15/16, but you can just use the last menu entry to launch it instead without a blank tray icon. If you use the "Launch Flameshot" menu entry, you get a tray icon, and then work with that to start taking a screenshot.

It should be in the test repo soon, but I have the packages for 15/16 and 17 here, too: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1rg9GP ... BQmXBduVC1

Awesome screen shot tool can you replace the default screenshot tool to the flameshot tool so that we can use print screen on key board to take the snap?
Thanks..

lenovo ThinkPad X1 Extreme Gen 4 - MX-23
FYI: mx "test" repo is not the same thing as debian testing repo.

@Stevo Very interesting this tool. Thanks you for packaging.
Is't necessary to install the dbgsym package too???

-dbg and -dbgsym packages are only useful if you're running the program with a debugger. Standard use doesn't need them. It's now in the test repository and can be installed with the package installer.

Thanks for looking at it.

flameshot is a great tool, actively developed (ongoing pull requests from various contirubtors, bugfixes and new features)
I haven't checked whether it has been packaged for MX repo. stretch-backports has a semi-recent version
https://github.com/lupoDharkael/flameshot
The current "master" branch builds/runs on antiX17 & FWIW i noticed only 1 bug ("flameshot screen blahblah" from commandline outputs a blank white imagefile)(known issue, already reported)

The newer version has now new option you can add text.
It is not enabled by default, so it is easy to miss it, you need to mark in configuration check box for text option to show

Flameshot is in testing repo, and works good. Although this version (0.5.1) does not have text option yet
On another computer I have flameshot 0.6.0-1 and that one has text option

Oh, there is app image available, cool, will check newer version and text tool on MX

Since 0.6.0-1 is already in stretch-backports and easily installable via MX Package Installer, we "Repo Men" feel that our packaging time is best spent elsewhere, rather than reinvent the wheel.

Yes, sure!
I wasn't suggesting new packaging, I was just letting others know, about new text box feature, since it can easy be missed, since it is not enabled by default.

Besides, there is also appimage available for download and there is also 'ksnip' app in stable repo, similar snapshot tool that allows fast annotations on top of it. So we have plenty to choose from. ;-)

Thanks for all the packaging you guys are doing it!
