MX 17 Repository: The Timeshift Thread

#1 Post by Stevo »

Timeshift 17.11 has now landed in the test repository.
Timeshift is a system restore utility which takes snapshots
of the system at regular intervals. These snapshots can be restored
at a later date to undo system changes. Creates incremental snapshots
using rsync or BTRFS snapshots using BTRFS tools.

It's pretty simple to use; here's an online guide.

How do you guys see this as comparing to or integrating with regular use of the MXSnapshot utility and/or aptik? Would Aptik's one-click backup do most or all of timeshift while also assisting in upgrades?

I think in my case my main concern is catastrophic failure of my hard disk and therefore the need to reconstruct the system on a new hard disk, which is why I am so sold on MxSnapshot as MxLinux's killer feature.

But I remember using Windows system restore somewhat regularly, and it might be good to have that capacity again.

So MxSnapshot? Timeshift? Aptik "One-Click Backup"? LuckyBackup?

It would really be helpful to come up with a good conceptual framework.

Till now I've used Timeshift only for backup/restore system. It's fast and I trust it.

The version in the MX Test repo is working well for me. Perhaps it can be moved to Main.

must be in main. Have no test-repos activated and became an update for timeshift. My previous version was the LMDE version. MX version is newer.

So is mine, but I installed from the test repo. I did not check main before installing.

We just moved 18.9 to main because of the positive test reports and also because it reportedly fixed some bugs in the older version.
