MX 17 Repository: The Kodi Thread

#1 Post by Stevo » Wed Nov 15, 2017 3:16 pm

We have a backport of 17.3 in the test repo for MX 17. It works fine for me on a bare metal install, and is not expected to be able play video on a virtual machine install. We have a report of it not playing video with an Intel G41 GPU, so this application needs some testing to see if we can track down the problem.

i googled kodi forum n found this; https://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=323679
i had the same problem as he has, i do not know how he solve it.
according to him, he built Kodi from source from the Git master branch.
maybe seniors understand how he did it.

Kodi uses the libav libraries provided by the ffmeg package. Our 17.3 in MX 17 was built against Stretch's stock 3.2.5 version of those libraries, though I think it's since had a security update to 3.2.8. However, it runs fine on my install, so I would doubt that ffmpeg is the issue. I will see if I can decipher the log. Sometimes a newer version of an app needs a higher version of openGL than older hardware can provide, though.

Kodi is a very complicated program to build from source, and the Debian version is even further modified. But it's relatively simple to just rebuild from the upstream debianized source, which is what we do.

There is also the option to try the version in deb-multimedia if you can't get the MX version to work.
