Oh, they did remove the ability to open an rss feed as a web page, but they did say they were going to do that to be like every other big browser. I guess Pale Moon and SeaMoney can still do that, though.

Hello,

Maybe Firefox MX tweaks could be improved by removing the browser update/download notification.

That caught me by surprise, too. Switching to 60-esr restores the functionality for another 10 months or so, but still...

That looks like it could be added to our "distribution.ini" configuration file.

I am booked up until Sat. If anybody else has time to get this in before then, go for it.

Where's the distribution.ini file stored ?

Reading the following thread, I understand that update notification can only be disabled via policies.json

https://github.com/mozilla/policy-templates/issues/310

The install process puts it in

Code: Select all

/opt/firefox/distribution

Our distribution.ini file already disables the update nag, as far as I know. The user can turn it back on manually.
From about:config Menu

Type “about:config” in the address bar, then press “Enter“.
Search for the “app.update.auto” setting.
Double-click the “app.update.auto” option to toggle the setting. If set to “true“, automatic updates are enabled. If set to “false“, automatic updates are disabled.
Though maybe that's just the update, and not the nag.

firefox-65.0 should be showing up in your update list from synaptic.
Enhanced security for macOS, Linux, and Android users via stronger stack smashing protection which is now enabled by default for all platforms. "Stack smashing" is a common security attack in which malicious actors corrupt or take control of a vulnerable program.
Check the release notes page for more info.
