You might want to read the Release notes.
http://www.palemoon.org/releasenotes.shtml
v28.5.0 (2019-04-30)
This is a major development and bugfix update.
Changes/fixes:
Redesigned the about box.
Added "Check for updates" menu entries to the AppMenu and classic menu (since the About box redesign no longer has application update in it).
If it is still in another build else where then they modified their build to include it.
I did look at the release notes, as that page is opened in the browser immediately after the update is installed and the browser is restarted.
So, I'm confused about what the AppMenu and classic menu are. I thought that referred to the Help menu, which is where the new "Check" is.
It used to be in the "About" popup window.
The build I have was downloaded from the Pale Moon website.
Once installed, the updates are automatic.

Well, since Mint doesn't have PM in its repo, that begs the question as to how you installed it.
Actually, not having an update checker is how Debian prefers its packages, but usually there's a patch or config file involved to disable it. I think we did that for our Firefox packages fairly recently, too.
I used the manual install method:
https://linux.palemoon.org/help/installation/
I'm fairly new to Linux, so there are still many concepts and procedures that I don't know.
Would the manual install work with MX, or is it best to get PM only through the repository?
Thanks for the replies.
