MX 17/18 Repository: The Marble/Marble-qt Thread

The QT or KDE map program, Marble, now has been updated to the latest 17.08.2 release in the MX 17 test repository. The standard marble package is the KDE version, but MX XFCE users can avoid those dependencies by installing the Qt-only marble-qt package instead.

Versatile, yet easy to use. Use Marble similar to a desktop globe; pan around and measure distances. At closer scale it becomes a world atlas, while OpenStreetMap takes you to street level. Search for places of interest, view Wikipedia articles, create routes by drag and drop and so much more.

Note that this update will break the standard Stretch version of Digikam if you use that. I tried some builds of newer Digikams against this newer Marble, but it turns out the 64-bit versions won't start due to some libglib2.0 errors. I am trying to rebuild the Stretch version to be compatible, and we'll purge the newer Digikam if that works.

Now updated to 17.08.3 in the test repository. There has been some revamping of the package names in this release, notably the the KDE version is now "plasma-marble". MX 17 desktop users will still be best served by installing the "marble-qt" package instead, which will not need any KDE packages.

We now have the latest 19.2.3 release in the test repo! Again, XFCE users should install the marble-qt package, while those with KDE can install marble and maybe even the plasma-marble packages.
