Package Request MX-18 - PhotoFilmStrip

#1 Post by topcat »

From PhotoFilmStrip website: https://www.photofilmstrip.org/en

Creates movies out of your pictures in just 3 steps. First select your photos, customize the motion path and render the video. There are several output possibilities for VCD, SVCD, DVD up to FULL-HD. The effect of the slideshow is known as "Ken Burns". Comments of the pictures are generated into a subtitle file. Furthermore an audio file can be specified to setup the background music for the slide show.
I tried to install the deb file from here:

Code: Select all

https://www.photofilmstrip.org/en/download/
...that resulted in an error using gdebi to try the install of photofilmstrip_3.7.0-1_all.deb :

Error: Dependency is not satisfiable: python3-wxgtk4.0

I used this Windows 10 version 3.7.1-84c1372 that worked very well - just need to get the same version working in MX if possible.

I searched the repositories including MX-test without finding it available.

Please advise if possible to install in MX-18 or not.

Thanks in advance for any consideration,

Looks like they gave you a Debian testing deb...which is up to 3.7.1, BTW: https://packages.debian.org/buster/photofilmstrip

I did do a backport of python3-wxgtk4.0 a few days ago for a try at Kicad that eventually went nowhere, but I still have it, so should be able to backport PFS 3.7.1.

I ran into the same problem as with Kicad with the newer SIP that the later PFSs require breaking a lot of existing programs, but I can package and install PFS 3.3.1 from the Debian snapshot archives safely for MX 15-18: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1CdN-k ... HMke8crE_g

Ok after testing this software, it is not working properly.

In the right hand side window in the screenshot below, should be another copy of the image where you would move an ending box to indicate where to stop the pan and zoom.

It is blank. Tried using other image files with the same result. Note it works OK with the same image files in the Win 10 version. I Don't know why that is.

I downloaded Stevo's zip file and installed the deb using gdebi.

Requirements per the site Downloads page:

To run PhotoFilmStrip you need:

Python 3.4
GUI framework wxPython 4.0.1 or later
Python Imaging Library (pillow)

To render your own filmstrips you need:

gstreamer (>1.6) with plugins
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

It is really Nice&Great Little Program ;)

I had similar problem with installing .deb (python3-wxgtk4.0), but...

I have downloaded "PhotoFilmStrip 3.7.0 Portable Edition 64bit" for Win7 and just run with Wine and it works fine.

I think the effect is quite good and promising, I will be using this program, thanks for information ;)

This is simple video with random images just for testing (music was added in Shotcut Video Editor):

PS. It is even funny. For Windows 10 users who want to download this program:

Installation
You can download this application when you log in to your Microsoft account and install it on up to 10 devices running Windows 10.

Why only up to 10 and no more? Well, MX user cannot download it probably (I'm not sure, I haven't got MS account)

I hope you guys will report back when you have it working in MX.

This definitely looks like a program I am interested in using.

And thanks for posting that video Fibogacci. What music is that?

Also, so the program will fit the length of the video to an audio file, but does not add the audio itself?

Hello,

I'm going to make some short tutorial/screencast later maybe, it will be easier to explain ;)

But meanwhile...

You can adjust lenght of sound in PhotoFilmStrip, for example:

1. You have 5 images
2. You have sound lasting 2 minutes and 30 seconds
3. You have such options:
a) adjust images to sound (so every image will last 30 seconds)
b) adjust lenght of sound to images - eg. every image lasts 10 seconds, you can shorten (cut) sound to 50 seconds

You can even add subtitles to each image, which is good.

Best advice is to try this program with Wine, should run fine, portable Windows programs usually are ok with Wine (download, unpack, run PhotoFilmStrip.exe)

I did add music in Shortcut, because I wanted to use effects (fade out music at the end) - well, more precision and possibilities to edit.

I'm sure that such a combo, PhotoFilmStrip and eg. Shortcut will do a great job together.

(By the way, if you're interested in video editors, check this out as well, I found it lastly, really cool thing with many built-in features: Cinerella GG - https://www.cinelerra-gg.org/ , well, to install it there is need to add repository, but it works, here is the instruction how to do it: https://www.cinelerra-gg.org/debian-package/)

And music is from here: https://freepd.com/epic.php
