I remember 9.3 wouldn't build on MX 16 for some compiler reason. I think it needs to support the c++14 standard, and gcc-4.9 can't do that. Maybe the clang compiler we have in MX 15 can handle it... I know the source code is up to 9.8, but the website still only has 9.3 tar.gz files of binaries for Debian, so we aren't any worse off. I could try 9.8, but that needs some refactoring of several patches because of changes in the source.
