GIO contains the API for the gnome VFS (virtual file system) which is what most gtk based file managers use for mounting and unmounting devices, including network shares.

I agree with Fehlix that network support (libreoffice-gnome) should be installed by default with LO on MX, or at least a sticky post.
I´ve been blaming at LO for about a week because i couldn´t open files on windows shares at job.
At home i am not aware of the problem because i don´t have nor need windows shares there, but at job there is not usually time to forum-searching
This morning i came to the mx forum and and found this french thread and could glimpse something about libreoffice-gnome so i Installed it.
By the way, AskLibreoffce has not been very useful to me.
