Can't install LibreOffice Italian langpack [SOLVED]

#1 Post by Sybelius »

Hi All,

As in the title, is impossible to install the Italian langpack on MX-15 KDE 64 bit (just installed and I like it).
Wishing to install the package, Synaptic wants to remove the whole suite (libreoffice and other packages getting the red icon); the same trying to install .deb package using "gdebi".
(libreoffice (1:4.3.3-2+deb8u5)
It's a bug, I suspect. Please, do anyone knowing the solution?

Welcome to the Forum! The Users Manual recommends using the Package Installer in MX Tools, which seems to work well for our users. Click on the Language entry, then scroll down (see image attached).

@Sybelius,
The version of LibreOffice from Debian Jessie is 4.3.x
which although it works fine is very old (well, 2 years old).

Version 5.1.5.x is the latest stable version.
I would let it replace 4.3.

As Jerry suggested, use the MX Package Installer.
From the Language section, choose the Italian LibreOffice metapackage
and
from the Office section, choose LibreOffice5
then click the Install button.

@do, Thanks for the heads up. I forgot that.
Seems there used to be a note in the description to get the lang first?
[I only used the Package Installer a couple of times for LibreOffice.]

For languages other than US English, the LO website recommends installing main package, language pack, help files in that order. I have never had a problem with this when I have downloaded from the website.

Thank you very much to all gentlemen helping me here.
I forgot to say that I have been using the Package Installer in MX Tools too in my first attempt; surely, I did mistake because the language problem comes out also with LibreOffice 5 installed.
I have been starting again from scratch: after removing all LibreOffice packages I have been using MX Tools and actually got LibreOffice perfectly installed and localized.
I am happy to be MX KDE user.
Best regards

@Gaer Boy,
My experience is similar.
I download the following torrents from
http://www.libreoffice.org/download/lib ... .5&lang=es

Code: Select all

LibreOffice_5.1.5_Linux_x86_deb.tar.gz
LibreOffice_5.1.5_Linux_x86_deb_langpack_es.tar.gz
LibreOffice_5.1.5_Linux_x86_deb_helppack_es.tar.gz
then extract all of the *.deb from the *.tar.gz's into one directory,
(usually one of the dictionaries is duplicated, so overwrite it),
then execute in a terminal from that directory:

Code: Select all

su -c "dpkg -i *.deb"
It's been working for me this way for about 10 years.

Note: 5.2.0 is very nice but has a bug for me that I hope will be fixed in 5.2.1

What's the bug Richard? Was planning to use 5.2.0 in our next Manual translations update.
