(SOLVED Thanks!) Dolphin does not previews pdf, how to resolve it?

#1 Post by joejac »

Hello

I need to organize hundreds of pdf documents, so I need a preview directly in file manager, I clicked preview pdf in Dolphin but it does not previews pdf only previews images. I double checked with Synaptic and I have installed kdegraphics-thumbnailer.

Any help in finding what is preventing Dolphin in previewing pdf-s is appreciated.
Please see attached image.
Thanks and regards

Install kdegraphics-thumbnailers

Dolphin > Settings > Configure Dolphin > General > Previews: Show previews for PostScript, PDF and DVI Files

This worked here.

Note that generating the previews will be pretty slow.

Obvious question is have you got Preview selected on the toolbar?

Where are the files you need to preview located? Are they on the same machine, or located remotely?

It appears that the KDE respin ISO for April may have a damaged libgs9. Try reinstalling it in Synaptic and see if that clears it up.

BTW, I was thinking of having Dolphin on the respin have the text menu bar like it used to, rather than the gear icon on the right, and get rid of the big preview pane on the right. Any thoughts.

I like the old way also.
Yes, even I am dishonest. Not in many ways, but in some. Forty-one, I think it is.

I like the menu being available from the toolbar icon on the right. It looks clean and minimal, imho. The preview panel on the right I turn off though because I like to not have to hover over the icon just to see the preview on the right. I prefer the folder icon previews myself. All just personal preference though.

If you installed only Dolphin in MX-15 Xfce, (not Stevo's snapshot), as I did. you will also need to install kdegraphics-thumbnailers, to preview pdf files.

In Stevo's snapshot it is already installed as far as I can determine.

Hello,

I am used to see the preview to the right, this was the way Windows did for many years. I do not pretend Linux works exactly the same but if I have the option to the right, it is fine for me.

Thanks a lot Stevo very nice KDE "unsupported" MX.

By the way I have a message from the forum saying:
"Your IP 186.167.250.60 has been blocked because it is blacklisted. For details please see http://www.spamhaus.org/query/bl?ip=186.167.250.60.
I am not a bad Internet user, I do not understand.
