Yeah, that's why my snapshot is experimental. I'll see if I can fix it; so far none of the numerous threads on Ubuntu or Mint with the same issue have provided an answer. I'm sure it's some damaged file or folder in the dpkg system, but as to why it only affects gdebi, I haven't a clue.

In my Virtual box installation, synaptic is also broken some way. Keeps on crashing when installing something.
This is my second test, on the first one there was no way to reload the package lists. Hash sum mismatch on all repos.
Worked fine live, md5 sum verified.

Probably some of the extra thing you did Stevo. My own roll of 15 with KDE does some weird things in Dolphin that I have not bothered with. But APT has been solid. But I'm not concerned with size either.
Yes, even I am dishonest. Not in many ways, but in some. Forty-one, I think it is.

I've uploaded a new KDE-added snapshot.

This one doesn't have a broken gdebi :p

https://copy.com/1juoMyD2QWelPWRn (1.2 GB)

md5sum is 203f3db0c0abcf3c64182276f10569d5

I made an xdelta, but it came out at nearly 800 MB, so forget that.

I made the download a bit bigger by adding Digikam and Shofoto. I also minimized the use of KDE metapackages. It also uses double-clicks by default.
