In any case gksu works.

Thanks, didn't think of it. Lots of other things to tweak. Xfce feels very polished in comparison.

MX-15 and XFCE are very polished. But do not judge KDE by this install. A full native install, say Mint is very nice and I believe has less issues. It uses kde 4.14 also. I used Kubuntu for a while, but do not like KDE 5 in the latest release. I find MX-15 and XFCE my choice right now.

It will be perfect when I have worked on it. There is about a thousand lines of xsession errors concerning mime-types and similar to get rid of. Not very difficult as they are easy to Google.
That's what I get for wanting a rather large kde installation (500 packages) instead of a small one.

When you get it "perfect" you may want to offer your own respin.

To offer a probable unpopular opinion; Right now I am of the opinion if you want KDE as your DE of choice, install an OS that offers it by default.

1. It will be fully supported.
2. Most of the niggles we are finding will not exist.

And I am not trying to drive people away from MX-15. Most current users, I believe, are happy with XFCE. (Anecdotal opinion).

The thing is, I'm trying to exactly recreate the kde I had in M11. It was easy in MX-14 but kde has changed a little since.
This is something I like to do, so I'm not complaining.

I just did a re-install saving home to start fresh. This time I didn't install KDE, just a few apps and the files that came with them. I'm finding that I can work with this just fine.

I know and agree it is fun chasing down issues and rewarding when they are crushed. I did not mean to discourage anyone from installing KDE in MX-15. It is very workable as is, and as these issues are found and solved by users it will become better.

I also like KDE, but ran into the sound problems, so scaled back my efforts.

This makes me respect the high quality betas and releases that Warren used to make.

I am getting used to xfce as I use it more and tweak it to my liking. (k3b for example)
So I will hold off for now.

As I wrote in another thread saying I installed over Mepis 11.92 with MX-15, and asked what features am I missing?
Not much.

I agree with richb, I am happy with MX-15 and xfce for now. The MX-15 xfce is polished and solid.

One of the hidden reasons for tweaking kde is that my wife wants to use M11 forever. She says that any development is a step backwards because you must relearn everything.
