I run a usb-live-MX from a fast USB3 stick as well as a class 10 SD card via USB3 adapter.
But class 10 is pretty slow there. Fastest and most fun is (non-SD) USB3-stick with 32 GB so you can easily remaster. Does make quite a difference
dude, USB speed matters !
Re: dude, USB speed matters !
Too true. I've had 125MBPS write speed on a new ADATA 32GB USB 3.0 drive witnessed by 3 of my students when the maximum write speed is supposed to be 90MBPS. I had formatted it as ext4 and of course connected to a Linux machine. The best speed Windows could manage on an identical stuck using NTFS in the same machine was less than 80MBPS. Goes to say a lot about filesystem efficiencies.
I now use only USB 3.0 drives because even the El cheapo drives out perform USB 2.0 speeds.

I was amazed a year ago when I bought my first USB 3.0 stick, also with 32 GB. Plugged into a 3.0 port it makes a huge difference.

Re: dude, USB speed matters !
to be perfectly honest, I used 2 class 10 SD cards. The latest Sandisk SD I bought 1 week ago was actually significantly faster than another SD class 10 which was like 1 year old. Maybe the older card was not really class 10.
my point: real fast class 10 SD cards are rather close to native USB 3.0 sticks ("thumbdrives"). But there are some "slow class 10 SD cards" out there, imho.

+1 for for USB 3.0 sticks. I run MX completely off a 128 gb USB 3 stick on the lenovo. The live MX loads faster than the installed MX, but not as fast as the installed antiX (real cheap SSD in that machine).

Class 10 sd cards have to support 10MB/s transfers. But many new class 10 cards support 80 MB/s. Your older sd card is probably meets the class 10 standard - it's just that the new cards massively exceed it.yop wrote:to be perfectly honest, I used 2 class 10 SD cards.
