QuiteRSS 0.18.8

#1 Postby penguin » Sat Nov 04, 2017 3:43 pm

Include QuiteRSS on MX Linux Package Manager. I think is worthy.
The latest version 0.18.8 is here :

Code: Select all

http://ppa.launchpad.net/quiterss/quiterss/ubuntu/pool/main/q/quiterss/

I upgraded to my laptop without any problem.

It is in the repos :)

Just to add... as I am trying it. It's actually doing something that I really like.. normally Google Chrome will steal focus once I open a link in the outside browser.. it's been that way for a while for both mail and rss and everything else.. but on this program it actually switches back to the rss reader after a split second. Now that is a good thing when I want to open multiple links in my browser and read them later. *thumbs up*

Installing packages from Ubuntu PPAs on Debian-based distros eventually turns out to be a recipe for disaster. I'll try and backport the 0.18.8 version from Debian testing for our test repos. Does it put anything in the system tray? It can build against Qt 4 or 5, but Qt 5 system tray icons don't show up in our MX 16 tray. They do in MX 17.

Yes it does, if you want it to. You can decide what you want to have it do.

OK, then it's Qt 4 for MX 15/16 and Qt 5 for MX 17. I'll see if I can add some code to get it to automatically do that depending on the build environment.

It's a quick install, so if you want, you can check out the previous (repo) version.

It does have one thing that it pulls in. Here is what it installed:

phonon (4:4.8.0-4)
quiterss (0.17.0+dfsg-1)

It turns out that the Qt 5 systray works OK in MX 16, and the colors look the same as in the Jessie Qt 4 version, which simplifies the backporting.
