MX 15/16 Repository: The AzPainter Thread

#1 Postby Stevo » Wed Apr 12, 2017 9:21 pm

Here's another unsung and little-packaged program we now have in our test repo, at version 2.0.4. It's also reviewed in the current (May 2017) Linux Format magazine:

AzPainter was written by a Japanese software engineer known as Azel for drawing bitmap illustrations. It implements an original UI layout optimised for efficient drawing workflow – as seen by the author, which is why it
may take you few extra minutes to get used to the AzPainter interface. The AzPainter application features support for 16-bit colour images with transparency (RGBA), automatic brush size adjustment depending on tablet pen pressure,
Photoshop-style layers functionality, dozens of artistic filters, various types of selection tools, support for many third-party image formats including PSD, and more.

All that said, AzPainter wouldn’t be that thrilling if it was just another image editor for Linux, but this program packs
all these features into a tiny package that also boasts astonishing speed in everything it does, from start time to
general responsiveness. We think that there’s hardly anything on Earth that contradicts to the term ‘bloatware’
more than AzPainter.

The speed and efficiency makes it very suitable for older hardware.

aha! I had noticed that name (AzPainter) while browsing "speed painting" demonstrations, but didn't realize it was a cross-platform application.

To see examples of it in use, you can skim these videos.

Thanks for the video links. It's amazing how many features the developer has managed to get into a 460 KB deb package. It's about the same size as mtpaint with even less dependencies.
