MX 15 Repository: The Wine-staging Thread

#1 Postby Stevo » Fri Oct 23, 2015 5:22 pm

For MX 15, I've decided to switch over to the wine-staging packages, since it's now officially recognized by the Wine developers. The easy way to install on 32-bit is to install wine-staging-compat, I'll still have to investigate 64-bit.

These are experimental packages, I believe that they'll have to be tweaked to pull in some missing dependencies, for some reason, but would appreciate testing. Running

Code: Select all

wine --check-libs

finds missing dependencies.

wine-staging-1.7.54 is now available for testing. I have done so on an a4 64 bit HD install but first enabled multiarch as su using

Code: Select all

pkg --add-architecture i386
apt-get update

wine-staging installed OK and then I installed photoshop 5.5 and that now works.

Rumor has it that the 64 bit b1 shipped with multiarch already enabled. See the last post in this thread http://forum...php?f=122&t=38803.

The rumour is in fact true.

Perhaps we can add wine-staging to the package installer along with wine-develop. "Cutting-edge Wine with experimental patches". I think most people would be happy with the wine-staging-compat package so that all wine calls divert to it.

I tried MX package installer then winetricks in MX-15 beta but needed Zenity I was informed. Presumably things have been revised or changed since MX-14 http://mepiscommunity.org/wiki/system/wine (main link currently offered via MX-15 manual) may now be outdated, per recent changes?

Ordinarily adding wine I'd use Synaptic (M11/MX-14), get a menu entry/group, download and run sh winetricks and get a couple of other things like fonts via the terminal there, based on wiki recommendations, and away ya go. No concern here for now as I'll sit tight on wine for a bit in MX-15 beta, read up a bit, and watch this space.
(I don't really follow the technical details and discussion posted above).

I happened to look via Synaptic tonight, decided to remove all wine related packages I could see under a 'wine' search, and try this newfangled wine-staging thingy with mx in the name, added the main wine package again (still needs the core bit) then had PSP 7 up and running fine without any further ado, browsing data partitions, opening images etc.. Getting the installer to run was a bit different (eg, no 'open with wine' context menu) but I managed OK so far I think, muddling along.

I just installed wine-staging in a LiveUSB MX15b1-64bit session (to test the new winetricks build with).
Wine didn't work. No wine executable was found from the command line.

I discovered that wine-staging-compat, was not automatically installed. Once I went back and installed it, wine-staging worked brilliantly & the new 20151110 winetricks works as well. I'll be uploading it once I tweak a dependency.

Great!

I guess the Wiki entry will have to be changed, but it is not high on my list ATM.

Will the new wine-staging go into main? I see my old one is still there. - mike
