MX 15/16 Repository: The linux-liquorix kernel thread

#1 Postby mmikeinsantarosa » Thu Oct 22, 2015 9:59 pm

The latest linux-liquorix-4.2-3 kernel is available for testing from the test repo.

Please let us know how it plays.

Anti used this kernel for the new MX 15 64-bit alpha 4, so I guess it'll definitely be tested there.

Too much responsibility?

By the way, with the new release of Ubuntu, the developers say they are going to switch to gcc-5.0 in the configuration for the stock Liquorix kernel headers, so we will be having the only Jessie-compatible versions from now on, just like now we have the only Wheezy ones.

I'll make a list of what we have to change from gcc-5.0 to 4.9 for Jessie, basically I've just been doing a search and replace from 4.9 to 4.7 in those files for M12 for our gcc-4.7 there.

A new revision (4.2-10mx150+1) for version 4.2-3 of the liquorix-kernel is now available from our test repo.

There is now a 4.3 kernel in the source liquorix repo using gcc-5, so those headers will no longer install in Jessie. After a backport to fix that comes the always fun job of testing and patching outside drivers to see if they compile with it.

Does it mean that the Liquorix party may soon be over?
MX-14 on a Via Eden 1GHz CPU thin client, 3GB RAM, Via VX800 chipset, Via Chrome9 HC GPU, 32GB M.2 SSD;
btrfs with @ and @home subvolumes for MX-14;
added @antiX and @antiXhome subvolumes and copied antix 13.1 base into them, adjusting Grub from MX-14.

Not for us, we port it over so it's still compatible. For posterity and mikeinsantarosa, here's what we change in the /debian folder in addition to the standard porting:

Change gcc-5 to system gcc (gcc-4.7 for Wheezy base, gcc-4.9 for Jessie. Currently it's a simple search and replace all from "-5" to "-4.7" for M12 or "-4.9" for MX15 for these files:

/config/defines
config.defines.dump
control
rules.gen

For the three config-* files in /config/kernelarch-x86/, replace

Code: Select all

CONFIG_FB_NVIDIA=m
CONFIG_FB_NVIDIA_I2C=y
# CONFIG_FB_NVIDIA_DEBUG is not set
CONFIG_FB_NVIDIA_BACKLIGHT=y

with

Code: Select all

# CONFIG_FB_NVIDIA is not set

add the debian /patches/other folder from a previous version of our build and add the line from a previous series file to use the patch from there.

templates/control.source.in

Add yourself as maintainer.

I also have patched fglrx so it gets a clean build in 4.3--basically, this code in /common/lib/modules/fglrx/build_mod/firegl_public.c:

Code: Select all

     len = snprintf(buf, request, "%d\n", major);
 #else
     len = seq_printf(m, "%d\n", major);
 #endif

is changed to

Code: Select all

     len = snprintf(buf, request, "%d\n", major);
#else
#if LINUX_VERSION_CODE >= KERNEL_VERSION(4,3,0)
     seq_printf(m, "%d\n", major);
     len = 0;
#else
     len = seq_printf(m, "%d\n", major);
#endif
#endif

Any chance of including the fbcondecor patch to the liquorix kernel?

We can try--do you have a link to it?

Edit: can get it from the Gentoo kernel patches, who got it from AntiX:

https://dev.gentoo.org/~mpagano/genpatc ... -4.3-1.htm

Would like to see exactly what and where to add to the config files, though...
