Add an epoch number to the start of the 0.7.4 version to have it be seen as higher than 0.8.0.

Thanks Stevo,

I fixed it by sorting out doublecmd.list, as follows:

Code: Select all

#### Doublecmd 0.8.x alfa for Debian8, GTK & QT
# deb http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/Alexx2000:/doublecmd-svn/Debian_8.0/ /

#### Doublecmd 0.7.x beta for Debian8, GTK & QT
deb http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/Alexx2000/Debian_8.0/ /
Currently running v0.7.4. [currently, 2017, 0.7.8.x and sometimes 0.8.0 until it breaks :) ]

I am sorry but I am not following the version history. The latest version here appears to be .0.8.0 alpha build but it is dated 04/16. on the doublecommander website, the latest version is 0.7.8, but it is dated 2/24/17.

Which one is better with the most features?

Hi Nathan, you are not the one confused. I have installed Double Commander from the MX repository, within the past two months, and see that it is Version 0.8.0. Like you have browsed through the DC site, and Sourceforge too. They report 0.7.8 as the most recent, with no mention of any alpha versions. In fact, the only DC alpha I could find was 0.4, years ago. What ever it is,the version available from the repo is behaving here.

Yes, they are a bit obtuse:
0.7.8 is the beta version
0.8.0 is always the alfa version, testing version.

Imagine that when 0.8 is released?
then it will be 0.8.0 beta and 0.9.0 alfa.

Thanks Richard. Have found reference to the 0.8.0 version now - on the Development Page of the DC site. Interesting to see it's Lazarus dependent.

Yes, it is a very complex app.
I've built it with Lazarus but with my fingers and eyes crossed.
He does have good instructions for what is needed to build.

I read the build instructions and stopped there. Was reasonably familiar with standard & Turbo Pascal, but so far have had difficulty working with Lazarus Will stay
with the repo's DC package.
