Stevo wrote:It seems this new version also requires pulseaudio as a dependency, otherwise sound won't play in it. We already have pulseaudio preinstalled in MX, but we should still have it in there in case an M12 user, or an MX user that's removed pulseaudio, installs it and wonders why sound doesn't work.
I can add it and make a test set available in this thread tonight.

Here's the backport I did of Sid's version which added back the ALSA sound support:

Something is currently broken in the OBS in that it's not creating a link to the instructions to add the repo, and you can imagine I'm not anxious to manually upload all 94 source packages again to one of my existing repos, so if you want the single deb for my backported Firefox 52 which also supports alsa, you'll have to download and install the deb file from the appropriate amd64 or i386 folder in this repository: http://download.opensuse.org/repositori ... ebian_8.0/

firefox-52.0.2 is now available to upgrade to.
Being mostly a bug fix, for more info, check out this Link.

This update is good for MX-14, 15, 16 & MEPIS 12.

Thanks, Mike. It installed fine here and seems to run as normal.

I have been getting more frequent freezes with the more recent versions and suspect some sort of flash config problem that I need to look at.

Firefox 53.0 and its associated language packs are now in the main repository. A summary of the main changes that apply to Linux:

* Processors older than Pentium 4 or AMD Opteron no longer supported.
* Two new compact themes (dark and light).
* New legacy add-ons are no longer accepted on AMO.

Users might also want to try experiment with turning on the hardware acceleration to see if that makes any difference:

It seems to help on my laptop with Intel Skylake graphics, but YMMV.

The latest firefox-53.0.2 is available for download. This one does include a security fix.
Fixes: CVE-2017-5031: Use after free in ANGLE
Description:
A use-after-free can occur during Buffer11 API calls within the ANGLE graphics library, used for WebGL content. This can lead to a potentially exploitable crash.
Note: This issue is in libGLES, which is only in use on Windows. Other operating systems are not affected.

An upgrade to our 53.0.2 version has landed in the main repository. This incorporates dolphin_oracle's nice fix to the bookmarks!

firefox-54.0.1 is now available to upgrade to. If you're installed version is less than 54.0, you should install this one as there was a critical security issue fixed.
CVE-2017-5472: Use-after-free using destroyed node when regenerating trees
Description

A use-after-free vulnerability with the frameloader during tree reconstruction while regenerating CSS layout when attempting to use a node in the tree that no longer exists. This results in a potentially exploitable crash.
