Apparently 48 includes some new multithreaded sandbox support, but it's off by default, because some addons aren't compatible. Some people say Firefox runs much better with it enabled, especially with a multicore processor: https://wiki.mozilla.org/Electrolysis

I force enabled it, because some addon was blocking it, or it wasn't on a whitelist, and no crashes so far.

firefox_49.0 is now available for download/upgrade from main. This is available for MX15/14 and M12.
Release notes: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/49.0/releasenotes/

In this release MX15 user should be allowed to watch Netflix. In order to get this to work a user-agent switcher will still need to be used, hopefully this requirement will be dropped soon. I set it to Google Chrome and Linux and Netflix now plays. I used the following addon
http://mybrowseraddon.com/useragent-switcher.html Also when once you enter Netflix a small dialogue box will drop down underneath your address bar/bookmarks bar and will want confirmation that you do want to install the components needed to watch Netflix.

I was unable to get it to work on either M12/MX14. In M12 Netflix seemed to just load and load, but on MX14 the widevine plugin would crash. These tests were done in a VM so maybe you can get it to work on a real hardware install. If so please post how so that other users are able to benefit.

For what it's worth, I noticed that the mozilla.debian.net backports, plus upstream Debian versions, are still building from source against GTK 2. It takes hundreds of times longer than our rebundling of the binaries, though. And you have to download OMG about a hundred source packages, unless you're tricky and use deb-src and "apt-get source".

Version 50 in Experimental is using GTK 3, though.

* New upstream beta release.

* debian/control*:
- Bump sqlite build dependency.
- Add build dependency on libx11-xcb-dev.
* debian/browser.install.in: Add the EmojiOneMozilla font.
* debian/rules, debian/control: Re-enable Gtk+3 to see how it goes.

Hey, they're shipping an built-in emoji font.

They haven't done 49.0.1 upstream, no doubt because that just fixed a Windows bug.

The latest firefox got a couple of custom tweaks to it just for us. :happy:

It's tagged - firefox_49.0.1~mozillabinaries-1mx150+3

1- the icon has been remapped to support the user changing themes
2 - the MX related links have been changed to map to the new website url.

This update is good for M12/MX -14 as well.

fyi - mike

Works fine, thanks. For the future, we should change the wording on the About screen, where it says that updates are managed through "MXLinux 15." Can we leave it generic: "MX Linux"?
Production: 4.7.0-0.bpo.1-amd64, MX-15 RC1, AMD FX-4130 Quad-Core, GeForce GT 630/PCIe/SSE2, 8 GB, Kingston SSD 120 GB and WesternDigital 1TB
Testing: AAO 722: 3.16-0-4-686-pae. MX-15, AMD C-60 APU, 4 GB
