I have discovered that Stretch does not include gcc-4.9 or gcc-5 any longer, which is going to give us PM problems in the future, since the PM developers tell me it's unstable if built against gcc-6. Maybe we can add those gcc versions to our own repo, like Ubuntu has decided to do.

Pale Moon released the 27.4.0 version yesterday, so we now have it built and in our main repo. This particular version has a "really" as part of the version, since apparently the github has a 27.4.0 tarball release that's not what they meant, and I used that first. I still don't really get what was going on.

Anyway, this version has a lot of improvements to the embedded media playback, along with other fixes. Read all about them here.

Good news. Thanks a lot, Stevo! That is fantastic!

Like many people, I've been looking for a more lightweight alternative to Firefox for long, so this is really worth testing.

Been using Pale Moon here for months. If you want to expand its capabilities, many Mozilla add-ons are suitable, and if you do have any questions, there is a Pale Moon Forum.

Thanks for the hint. I very much like the special kind of bookmarks syncing implementation.

Yeah, I've become the default Debian and Ubuntu Pale Moon packager and repo maintainer for the project, mainly because no one else was maintaining a PPA or was willing to take it on. I use the openSUSE Build Service to build the packages and automatically create a repository to host them--it's free for anyone to use to do that.

That's really cool, Stevo!

Just tested Pale Moon for approx. 24 hours. Basically, it works superb. (I had three complete system freezes but I think that's due to some dist-upgrade or to some Pale Moon plugin.)

Now I'm installing Pale Moon for a friend who permanently needs the "Wikipedia (de)" search engine plugin that he is used to from Firefox.

The Pale Moon guy doesn't really fancy the use of Firefox plugins in Pale Moon, so I thought about taking Pale Moon's original "Wikipedia (en)" plugin and make a version for the German Wikipedia out of it. Unfortunately it always redirects to the US/GB version.

Do you have any idea what's wrong here?

The original plugin is in

Code: Select all

/usr/lib/palemoon/browser/searchplugins
, and it's called

Code: Select all

wikipedia.xml
.

I copied it, changed the copy to

Code: Select all

wikipedia_de.xml
and then changed it as follows (my last attempt):

Code: Select all

Any idea what's wrong with that?
