Kodi 17.1 is now available in the test repository. It's mostly a bugfix release, and users of 17.0 should upgrade to this version. Softpedia's blog post about the new release is here: http://news.softpedia.com/news/kodi-17- ... 4137.shtml

Thanks Stevo, got Kodi 17.1 running beautifully on two of my linux boxes, though one was tricky.

I'm posting my fix in case it helps someone else who tries upgrading to Kodi 17 from 16 and runs into my problem.

What happened was the upgrade went fine, but when clicking the Kodi icon to launch, nothing happens. I had a bunch of crash logs in my home directory for each attempt. The last line in the log mentioned an error on some xxx26 database.

I first thought maybe Kodi 17 required higher specs as the problem box was lower specs. That was not the case. After googling the launch problem, I found a fix saying to delete/rename the xxx26 file, or rename the hidden kodi folder in your home directory. I renamed the ".kodi" folder and that fixed the problem.

Running the same version here as well. My upgrade earlier from 16 to 17 went without a hitch, later upgraded to 17.1.

There are a few quirks with this 17.x version that still need ironing out, but that is nothing WE can fix, that is up to the Kodi developers.

It does take some getting used to, 16 to 17 was quite a change, GUI wise :) But thanks for packaging!

yeah 17 is quite different than 16, but I like it. I figured most things out on my own without looking up anything about the differences, still learning as I go.

The older GUI skin (Confluence?) can still be installed and used on 17, if that's any help.

Not really.. a lot of things are located elsewhere now.

No biggie, just go through all the settings one by one on expert mode and it becomes clear :)

We now have the latest bug and security fix release, 17.3, in the test repository. All 17.1 users are urged to upgrade to this version.

Hmm.. kodi-bin isn't available as an upgrade?

It shows up, but doesn't get marked along. It wants to do kodi-data, so I mark that and then kodi comes up as being broken.

When I try to update kodi-bin on its own first I get this: unresolvable dependencies.
