[Solved] Firefox options for us Mepis 11 holdouts

#1 Post by uncle mark » Sun Jul 09, 2017 1:08 pm

Still running M11-64. Using Fx ESR 38.2.0 from a .deb that mikeinsantarosa built a couple years ago. Need to know if there is a way to get current or as close to current as possible. Starting to get some kickback from some websites.

Additionally, and perhaps unrelated, whenever a Facebook or Twitter video is posted in a web forum, it starts up for just a second or two then goes black with "Media could not be displayed" error.

IIRC I got to 45.9.0 by running Mike's FF-esr as root and upgrading it.
But if that does not work for you you could try
https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/rel ... 686/en-US/
I believe that nothing better than 45.9.0 will run on Squeeze: Stevo or Mike can correct me if I am wrong.

Maybe the time has come to get a more up-to-date OS?

Firefox-esr 45.2 is in the Mepis 11 main repository. That was the last one we built that would run on M11.
If you don't see it, you probably haven't changed the main.mepis-deb.org addresses in your repository list to mxrepo.com
The mepis-deb.org registration lapsed last month.

Not seeing it. Would it make a difference if I had installed v38 ESR from mike's .deb instead of through apt-get/Synaptic? Or maybe there's something amiss here (I edited per your instructions):

I just double-checked. It installed fine:

Are you getting a clean Reload in Synaptic or are you getting errors?

Clean except for the debian repo, which doesn't surprise me.

Code: Select all

It does surprise me, because reload is working fine here.

P.S. Seamonkey browser works fine also.

I created a new sources.list, copying Tim's repos.

I don't know what they'd be. I haven't touched them in ages. Went in a toggled a few things, but it made no difference. It's got me stumped.

What's the command for purging the apt cache?
