What to do about APC Back UP UPS

#1 Post by duane » Sat Jun 28, 2014 6:58 pm

Today when I started this computer the monitor flickered on and off then stayed off even though the computer finished booting.
I suspected my battery backup. It is an APC Back- UPS ES 750.
Sure enough upon turning it off and then back on the monitor came back on.

There used to be a utility that let me look at what it was doing back when I was using Mepis 8 I think.
The monitor part was not maintained recently.
Is my only option to hook up a windows machine to check it?

Have you tried installing apcupsd via Synaptic?

It is installed. This is on the machine I reinstalled MX-14.1.1 on the other day.
I do need to go in and check the configuration still.
I was bemoaning the fact that GAPCMON is not available any more so far as I know.
I used to get all kinds of useful information from it.

Tomorrow I'll see if gapcom will build on the wheezy base. If it will I'll make it available in the Community Repos.

That turned out to be a quick & easy build.
Gapcmon is now available in the MEPIS 12 testing CR.
You'll need to enable that repository in Synaptic (it's already in the list), click Reload and you'll be able to install Gapcmon. That's the entry that looks like this:

Code: Select all

deb http://main.mepis-deb.org/mepiscr/testrepo/ mepis12cr test
Make sure to disable the testing repository afterwards. It's not always safe to do your normal updates with it enabled.

Please let me know how it works - I don't have a supported UPS to try it with.

It is not working.
I set it up on a new MX-14.2 install.
I will be here on and off today since it is the 4th of July.
One other thing. When I first installed it would start normally.
Now after configuring it only starts as root from the terminal?

Here is the message:
