"your chromium browser is outdated - go and do some updates"

dear community

i just have installed freshly - and after the installation i added chromium through the install-package manager - or how do we call this in MX-Terms.

now i get the following message whie surfing in the internet.

"your chromium browser is outdated - go and do some updates"


what can i do!?

You can try the following in terminal....

Code: Select all

sudo apt update
sudo apt upgrade

If "your chromium browser is outdated - go and do some updates" is an exact quote of the message you're seeing, it's a scam to try to get you to click on a malicious link. "Go and do some updates" is hardly the phrasing that would be used were it a genuine message originating from Chromium.

Yes, don't believe everything you see on the Net. They used to use a fake Flash as an attack vector, but I guess since that's going to ease on out the door, tactics are a'changin'.

Google Chrome is usually somewhat newer than Debian's equivalent Chromium.

Of course, we are assuming you're using the latest MX 18.3. If you downloaded something like MX 16, all bets are off.
